2021 Mid-Ohio Recap

LEXINGTON, Ohio – Drivers Michael Johnson and Stephen Simpson and the Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) team struggled to find their groove on Saturday, placing 10th at the Mid-Ohio 120 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.

“Saturday’s race was a rough one,” said Johnson. “We were dealing with a couple issues with the car and the cautions didn’t help us. We made some points though. We will keep moving forward and get ready for the next race at Watkins Glen in June.”

Johnson and Simpson’s total time in the BHA Universal Coating No. 54 Hyundai Veloster N TCR car was 2:01:36.443 and its best lap was measure at 1:30.128.

“All in all, it was a tough race for us,” said Simpson. “Michael did a good job in qualifying and his start to the race was really good; he made up at least one position. Halfway through though, we started to fade out a little bit. We had good pit strategy and the guys gave us a great, fast pit stop. The race just didn’t play out in our favor. It was a bit of a disappointment for us. It’s not what we were working towards or hoping for but that’s how it goes sometimes. We are on to Watkins Glen.”

Later next month, Johnson and Simpson and the BHA team will continue Michelin Pilot Challenge action when they visit Watkins Glen, N.Y. for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. The four-hour Tioga Downs Casino Resort 240, on the 3.4 mile, 11-corner Watkins Glen International Speedway, is scheduled for Saturday, June 26 at 2 p.m. ET.
