Michael Johnson Racing Announced to Forego the Final Three Events of the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge
FLINT, Mich.; October 5, 2020 – Michael Johnson Racing announced on Monday that the JDC-Miller Motorsports’-backed driving team of Michael Johnson and Stephen Simpson will forego the final three events of the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
“A combination of factors went into making this difficult decision,” said Josh Reasoner, Director of Michael Johnson Racing. “First and foremost, we took into account the health and well-being of the drivers and the crew due to the prolonged nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, two of final three races will take place on tracks at which we have already competed during the 2020 series and the third race involves lengthy cross-country travel to California. Taken together, for these reasons, the team will not race for the remainder of the Michelin Pilot Challenge series.”
Johnson and Simpson will not take part in races at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. (Oct. 16), WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, Calif. (Nov. 1) and Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla. (Nov. 14).
Johnson and Simpson finished their 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series strong, posting a third-place finish in the second of a double-header of races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
